A Ming Dynasty Limestone Buddha.
Circa 1600. This wonderful limestone sculpture invokes serenity in every aspect -- wonderful face, expressive eyes and a dignified posture. Like all great sculptures it is skillfully carved even from the back. He sits on a rootwood throne with a guardian food dog in front. The sculpture retains its original red, yellow and pink pigments. The condition is excellent with no breaks -- and a few flakes in the stone, visible in the photograph. It measures 19" high by 13" wide and 9" deep. The price is $15,000.
