A Walnut Hall Table, from Shanxi Province.
Dating from the 18th century, built entirely of walnut (hateo-mu), this charming table comes from the entrance hall of a wealthy private home in northeastern China. Unwaisted, with mitre and exposed tenon joinery, this table has a frame-and-panel top, and a four-sided openwork apron. Its delicate straight legs are shaped in a simulated bamboo design. This table measures 80 inches long, by 16 1/2 inches wide, by 32 inches high; the price is $3,200.
